catia

catia is an acronym that stands for computer aided three dimensional interactive application. catia is a software application for creating three dimensional drawings and models.
catia is configured into three platforms. each platform defines a technical capability.

platform 1 – (p1) – starting point for smaller companies that do not require process orientated tools. functionality is limited to design tools.

platform 2 – (p2) – provides extended design tools and process orientated tools. the process tools are interchangeable and scalable.

platform 3 – (p3) – has the look and feel of p2 and can be customized to fit a particular industry.

within each platform are application tools. the application tools contain workbenches. the workbenches contain tools that are specific to each workbench. the analogy stated was the difference between a welding shop and a wood shop. each shop has it’s own specific tool sets to accomplish specific tasks.

primary users include manufacturing and defense related companies. boeing and lockheed are examples.
